En-route to the Marshall Islands

23 Feb 2014 – Honolulu

Linda Dement and Jessie Boylan We are currently in Honolulu en route to Majuro, capital of the Marshall Islands, for workshops with youth representatives from Japanese, Kazakh and Marshallese communities who have been affected by nuclear testing. March 1st marks the 60th anniversary of the US Castle Bravo atomic test, which contaminated the Bikini, Enewetak, Rongelap, and Utrik atolls and forced the local population to leave; many Marshallese have also suffered ongoing illnesses as a result of these tests. This is the first in a series of new media workshops with third-generation atomic Hibakusha (survivors) as part of the Global Hibakusha project
