We are working to develop a theatre play script telling the stories of the nuclear veterans involved Australia’s atomic bomb tests during the 1950s.

The project is led by nationally acclaimed, award-winning playwright John Romeril, who will undertake an artist in residency in Balaklava, working with local veteran Avon Hudson and SA Director Teresa Crea. Renowned internationally for plays based on important Australian historical events, Romeril recently received the 2013 Lifetime of Achievement accolade at the Sydney Theatre Awards.

In developing the original dramatisation and performance, documentary, verbatim and multi-media art techniques will be used.

The Balaklava theatre work will be multi-arts and multi-platform. It is supported by the State Library of South Australia and will involve the development of an archive and oral history collection at the Library.
